How does it work?

A Roller Shutter consists of a series of interlocking horizontal slats that sit comfortably between a side channel on each side of the shutter. The ‘curtain’ is raised and lowered by either a manual winch operation, which is located on the internal wall next to the window, or by a switch or remote control. With options for mains power and motorised controls, our roller shutters are ideal for modern homes seeking convenience and style.

Where there is limited space to install a winch box on the wall, there is the option of a hand-pull cord operation, which takes up less space. The slats roll up at the top and are contained within an aluminium roll-formed headbox. This headbox comes in 3 standard sizes of 165mm, 180mm, and 205mm, which is determined by the height of the roller shutter.

What's Popular

Consider the newly released silver paint finish for an architectural detail to the product, or the ever-popular cream colours. Many customers choose to motorise their shutters with Somfy switch or remote control options.

Additionally, pairing window shutters with outdoor blinds or security doors protects your interior furnishings and enhances energy savings.

Expect roller shutters to cost anywhere from $400 – $1400, depending on their size with the most common sizes generally costing around $900.

Roller Shutters help to reduce noise by up to 80% depending on the frequency. However, traffic noise, which is a low-frequency, often is not blocked as much as customers expect.

Roller Shutters add ‘at-home’ security and a deterrent when you are away. At home security means a person could not enter your home without making so much noise that it would alert you. However, given time and tools, a determined person could break a shutter, though this is very rare.

 • Heavier more rigid profile – The Croci Shutter is 15.5% heavier than the other major competitors.

 • More polyurethane with less air – This provides better insulation of heat and noise and gives the slat more rigidity and less buffeting.

 • Thicker Aluminium – The Aluminium ribbon used is thicker than the opposition product once again adding to stiffness and rigidity especially over wider shutters.

 • Thicker Paint – Our slat paint is approximately 80um thick. Our major opposition is and around 25um thick. That makes our paint 3x thicker which gives better protection for the metal layer.

 • Larger Slat – Our slat is 44mm high against around 41mm for the others. This means the slat is stronger and you have less joins adding to rigidity and security.

 • Bigger Colour Range – We have the largest range of colours and the most combinations of box & slat colours.

A Roller Shutter is a great sound barrier however it is difficult to quantify. Roller Shutters do decrease the amount of high pitched noise transition through the window. Low pitched sound such as traffic noise will only be minimally affected by the installation of Roller Shutters.

Why Adelaide Homeowners Choose Roller Shutters

Roller shutters are more than just a security feature; they are Adelaide’s ultimate defense against our unique climate extremes. Whether you live near the coast in Glenelg, the busy streets of Prospect, or the bushfire-prone Adelaide Hills, aluminium roller shutters offer a complete protective shield for your home.

 • Unbeatable Heat Protection: Our foam-filled aluminium slats stop up to 90% of radiant heat from entering your windows, drastically reducing your air conditioning bills during Adelaide’s scorching summer heatwaves.
 • Security & Deterrence: Create a formidable physical barrier that deters intruders. The visual presence alone is often enough to make potential thieves move on to an easier target.
 • Noise Reduction: Significantly dampen traffic noise, barking dogs, and neighbourhood disturbances—perfect for shift workers or light sleepers.
 • Total Light Control: Achieve 100% darkness in bedrooms or home theatre rooms at any time of day.
 • Storm & Hail Defense: Protect your glass windows from severe storms, hail, and flying debris.

Aluminium vs. Steel: Which is Right for You?

At Stan Bond, we primarily recommend Aluminium Roller Shutters for Adelaide residential homes. Here is why:

 • Rust Resistance: Aluminium does not rust, making it essential for Adelaide’s coastal suburbs.
 • Insulation: The polyurethane foam core in our aluminium slats provides superior thermal insulation compared to solid steel.
 • Weight & Operation: Aluminium is lightweight yet incredibly strong, putting less strain on motors and manual winders for a longer lifespan.

Motorisation & Smart Home Integration

Gone are the days of manual winders. As Adelaide’s Somfy Experts, Stan Bond specialises in fully automated solutions:

 • Wall Switch & Remotes: Simple, reliable control at the touch of a button.
 • App Control (Somfy TaHoma): Control your shutters from your phone, no matter where you are.
 • Automated Sensors: Set your shutters to close automatically when the sun hits the glass, keeping your home cool even when you aren’t there.
